Because we face an environmental crisis, because we face a health & hunger crisis, and because we face a rural economic crisis, sustainable agriculture is among the most urgently needed work in the United States and worldwide. Despite these market demands, the sustainable agriculture industry languishes.
Some reasons are obvious: sustainable agriculture is knowledge-intensive work, it goes against the old way of farming–using harmful industrial inputs, and the current farmers aging population. Some are standard business reasons: the small farm businesses struggle to gain access to markets, or no markets exist, the assets and assistance are hard to obtain or nonexistent. Others are more subtle: they may have the land, but the capital, the markets, the equipment, the training and technical assistance they need to succeed have not formed a reliable network of reliable people.
Florida Sustainable Agriculture Cooperative, Inc offers a variety of pathways to obtain the land, the capital, the markets, the equipment, the training and technical assistance they need to succeed.
